Alternatives to high end Scotch-Weld 3M DP810 glue? OK, so I have no idea if this is uber-special unobtanium or what, but I am told I should use this to repair my Apple notebook hinges. At nearly 20 bucks a bottle, that's some pretty crazy expensive glue... What I want to know is this: Is it really a high end glue? Or is it just a regular epoxy? Are there any alternatives? It's going to be a little hard to find as I live in a rural part of Asia... They frequently have portions of product lineups like this but don't have 'specific' items. thanks. What do you mean superglue works fine? Does it have the same shear strength? These are two entirely different families of adhesives. One is an epoxy which is likely quite substantial and the other is a very thin liquid. I am concerned because the repair is quite expensive (90 bucks for a pair of hinges) and it seems like it's pretty likely to break again. I am told that using the best glue will prevent rebreaks. Will superglue prevent rebreaks? How long will it last?
How often should I replace a face mask used while spraying 3M Super 77 glue in a booth? After I trashed my first pair of transition lens glasses, I decided to start wearing a mask and protective glasses (over my real glasses) when I'm working at the spray booth on the job. I found that my throat and nose felt congested after spraying lots of paper to foam boards, which also led me to start protecting myself beyond just trusting the filters at our spraybooths to protect my lungs/eyes. Does anyone know how long I can use one cotton & elastic band type of mask before I should replace it? Crap. My coworkers already think I'm paranoid for using the cotton mask. How can I tell if the spray booths are properly ventilated?
What type of glue should I use to patch a waterproof car cover? I have some Budge blue water proof car covers. They get ripped fairly easily and I have some of the same material to patch them with. I have tried using 3M spray adhesive which is used on automotive applications (moldings, headliners, etc). I used heavy strength and light. I am thinking about trying gorilla glue next. they make gorilla glue for non-wood applications. duct tape will not work silicone is not glue and will not work
How to get super glue off car mirror? Okay, I have a 2009 Silverado with the black plastic mirrors. I bought the chrome add on pieces and they came with 3M adhesive tape already on them, well they didn't stick very well and I decided that I would super glue them. Well now I want them off, so how can I get the super glue off the plastic? I get the chrome off but the glue spots are still there. I've tried acetone, rubbing alcohol, Nothing worked.
What is the best glue/adhesive for attaching race numbers? I've heard of (and occasionally seen) riders gluing their race numbers onto their jersey instead of pinning them. I'm doing a TT soon and want to give this a try. What kind of glue is used and/or what is the best kind to use? I did a quick internet search and came up with 3M's "spray mount" product. Does this work well? Anyone have experience using this? Thanks!
I am looking for a specialty advertising printer that can apply glue to both sides of a repositionable note.? I want note pads similar to the 3M Post it Notes with a glue strip along the front side as well as the back side. The front of the notes would also have advertising messages or Customer Logo and Company name. The notes are called "Biz Card Affix-Um" and would be about 3 inches square. The Specialty Advertising Repositionable Note would be used to affix a business card, or other note, to the first page of a letter or piece of correspondence. In other words, the Biz Card Affix-Um is first affixed to the correspondence, and then the Bisiness Card is affixed to the front side of same. It makes for a unique way of presenting your company image. As a matter of note, the Biz Card Affix-Um is patented. Thank you for your help. Bosch Global.
Where to buy 3M polyurethane adhesive? I have a lip spoiler that i taped with 3M auto tape, but it keeps coming loose. I really want to find a glue that i can use along with the tape to finally seal the lip spoiler down so that it will stick! Let me know if you have any ideas what glue i can use, where i can find it, or if there's a special product. Thanks!
what glue for straw to canvas? I am trying to permanently glue straw to poly cotton canvas, and already used 3M adhesive for car roof liner, contact cement, and even gorilla glue, All I have done is glue the straw together but not to the canvas. I hope one of you have the expertise or at least done something similar. Any one?
What tape should I use for picture mounting / matts? Hi I have mounted some prints onto card with 3m spray glue, which has worked well. I've then placed a mount on top. The mount doesn't hold so well with the glue, and I wondered if there was a certaint type of tape I could buy to tape all around the backing board attaching it to the mat? (the mount board at the back is smaller than the mat, so I have room for tape) I hope I have made some sense! Thanks
cabinet refacer messed up my cabinets, what do I do? I've put a lot of time and effort into my kitchen, but I was spent and out of time, so I decided to get an experience cabinet refacer to do my cabinets. It was a pretty straight forward job, "oak cabinets in good condition need experienced cabinet refacer to install new alder veneer." I would supply the veneer, the 3M-90 glue and the money. I found a cabinet refacer on Craigslist. He sounded experienced and confident in his abilities. Well now I'm stuck with a crappy job and I'm out $200. I noticed, as he was laying the veneer on the fronts, that he wasn't taking the time to sand the old surface. He would spray the glue on the cabinets then on the veneer and wait about 3 minutes before applying. The underside of the cabinets is terrible. The veneer is starting to bubble and pull away from the cabinet. I'm at a loss here. Do I have to yank all this out and start over or is any of this repairable? any other tips would be great
Good glue for car upholstery....? I hear 3M spray glue goes bad in the heat...is there something better? My daughter is rehanging a headliner on the ceiling of her car and seems to not want to use the 3M stuff...also the material is fairly thin and it shouldnt bleed thru.
Best automotive glue out htere is? I added a new cold air intake system to my car. I want to get a hood scoop to get more air into the engine area so it can basically suck it up. The only ones I see out there are the 3M adhesive kinds. I am looking for one that is black or balck fiberglass and gets mounted on with screws. The way I see it is you can make the hole for hte scoop and predrill the holes for the screws. Then you lay the weatherproof sort of grommet, forgot of the word, and on top the scoop. Then you just twist on the rest and you get something safer than a piece of platsic or metal held on by a glue. I am scared that someone would rip it off or the seal won't be that great and when it rains I get water into my engine. My car is a hyundai elantra 04.
best type of glue for spoilers? ok, i have 2 spoilers with 3m double-sided tape. a lip spoiler on the trunk and a roof spoiler on the rear window. the lip trunk seems to be taped strong enough. although, the one on the window seems to not hold strong enough. i've had the roof spoiler re-taped with double-sided tape. so, is there any other type of glue that is water resistant? best type of glue. thanks.
Spray glue flammable after it dries? Bought some 3M spray adhesive for styrofoam today. It warns that the liquid and vapors are flammable, so not sure if it still is after it dries or not? Using it for foam sculpting that I'll be using a hot knife on once the glue dries and just need to make sure it's ok.
what 3m adesive is this? i am restoring a chevy luv pick up truck and i just received a new dash pad for it. (not a dash cap, but the actual dash with padding and vinyl covering). i checked in the shop manual and it says to use a 3M adhesive 1300 EC to glue it to the metal dash. well that product is 30 years old now and i cannot find it anywhere. so i am trying to find the newest, best, closest thing to it. if anybody is a 3m adhesive expert i would greatly appreciate the help.
what kind of GLUE do i use?!!!!? Ive posted questions a few times about this but im going to try it one more time- I need to buy glue to re adhere a small portion of my dashboard down that has lifted in my car. the part that has lifted is right above the steering wheel/gauge panel area. Its lifted up about an inch from where its possed to be. when the car has been setting in the sun, the dashboard is easy to push back down into place- so i need to sand down the old glue spots, wait til its warmed up and pliable- and then put on some new glue and hold it into place til it dries.... what kind of glue? thats my question. some ppl say use the 3M products, but ive read bad reviews about these. others say use this concrete type glue- its for things where 1 surface is porous and the other isnt. Can anybody tell me- where to go to get it, and what kind/name to get??

How to Repair 1988 Buick Century Headliner? Ok so the headliner is sagging on my sisters 1988 Buick Century. She has tried a lot of different things to fix it but nothing has worked. I'm about to redo the whole thing, but before I do I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. She has tried 3M's headliner spray on glue, velcro, staples, and a few other ideas. What do you guys have for me?
how to remove the RT cromw badge from my decklid? I have a dodge charger RT and on the decklid is the crome RT badge but I want to put the red RT badge on so how can I remove the crome badge safely without scratching the paint and also do I need any special glue to add to the 3M tape on the red badge so it doesn't fall off later.
What products, today, were the result of a mistake to create a different product? I've heard that 3M's Post-It Notes were the result of a mistake to create a new super glue. And that Kellogg's Corn Flakes were invented when the Kellogg brothers mistakely left their kettle cook too long when trying to create a different food product. And that the Chinese were trying to develop a health product that would result in immortality -- which failed -- but is being used today as gunpowder. Do you know of other products that were created as a by-product of mistakenly trying to create something else?
How can you remove a 2003 Ford Mustang V6 fender emblem? Wife's 2003 V6 Ford Mustang has a broken tail on it's front passenger fender. I'd like to replace the entire thing, as I doubt glue would work to replace it's tail. If I pop the emblem off, will it just be 3M type tape or is it bolted on? Car is pretty much flawless & don't want to damage the paint.
Is it okay to use scrapbooker's glue to make a hollow book? I'm making a book safe for someone as a present. I found instructions online and it recommended using puzzle glue or a white glue-water solution. When I went to the store, I couldn't find any puzzle glue and they were exasperatingly out of stock of Elmer's glue. Figures! So, I bought this glue: http://img.countryporch.com/darice/images/3M-019.jpg It is originally intended for scrapbooking - therefore for paper, etc. Do you think this will be alright?
Help got some glue on my pool table !!!? Had to refelt my pool table, and when i tugged on the felt on my last pocket before i was done i got some glue on it not realizing i had some glue on my hands. its not criticle its just a finger print. but if anyone knows how do you take off some 3m hi tac adhesive without ruining the felt it would be much appreciated to know the solution? just water ?
my 94 cad.deville faux soft top is deteriorating. Can I remove it and will it be painted beneath? 94 deville has a cloth top that is coming loose ,badly. I know I'll probably have to have roof painted. Pretty soon cloth will rip of by its self. Rest of car is very nice. Any ideas? and how would I remove the factory contact glue around the edges?

Which is a better spray adhesive? I need to glue together a ream of paper. After that I need to cut a circle out in the middle. Should I use 3M 77 or the photo mount kind?
How do i hang small shelves on my walls with out glue or putting holes in the wall? OK my mom and I are just about to move into a new rental place. I have not read all the agreements since i am still a dependent. I want to put those small decorative shelves around the top of the room but I don't want to put any thing that will damage the wall. I know about the 3M hooks but haven't used them and don't know if they would work or not for shelves. Does anyone know if they will or if there is anything else that would work? Thanks Im just going to be using them for my teddy bear collection which isnt all that big at the moment.
What bridge holds the most weight? I am in grade 12 we have to build a bridge for school. We have to use 25 wooden sticks ( 4mm by 4mm by 600mm) , 2 tubes of epoxy glue and 3m string.
How do I put emblems back on my car? I've got a '94 Z24 that I repainted and I want to put the emblems back on the skirts that say "Z24". The original ones were garbage after I pulled them off. What kind of glue or epoxy or whatever do I use? I'm thinking 3M weather strip glue is strong enough since I already have it and used it for my sunroof. Any clues? I also have Automotive GOOP. Curious if that would work as well. I want something that will hold these skirt emblems with no issue of them coming off in the winter or anytime after. Also read around that I should use 3m double sided tape.
What's the best adhesive to use for memorabilia? O.K. I know I shouldn't glue but sleeve it, however I'm am putting back together a scrapbook (that was glued) for an old organization with limited funds. Mostly it's comprised of news articles & photos of their old days. Personally I have used rubber cement for my recipe cards and found that it dried up and came apart. I've considered spray adhesive, but that could be alot of inhaling (yuk!), and I'm down to (possibly) regular white glue or good old 3M Magic Tape. What do you artists use to attach to mat boards? And how about you scrapbookers? Any collectors with suggestions? My goal is to get it together, KEEP it together, but considering the aging--and will age more--papers. Also the least damage in the long run. Thanks everyone! Oh that Herma Dotto looks like my typing correction tape, but it's 2-sided tape?! Yeah, I really didn't want to use any liquid type glue if I didn't have to.
Repair torn off bumper cover? I have a 2001 Toyota Camry CE that has had its front bumper cover torn off (caught on the edge by a chain link fence while in reverse). The holes for the screws on the top edge of the cover have all been torn through. My plan is to try to repair the torn screw holes in the bumper cover. I understand this bumper cover is made of thermoplastic olefin (TPO)-mainly polyethylene and polypropylene (reference found online) and won't bond well with many epoxies. I'm thinking of using 3M's DP-8005 adhesive for low-energy plastics ( http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver.dyn?6666660Zjcf6lVs6EVs666M8oCOrrrrQ- ) such as TPOs and gluing a piece of another bumper cover over the torn part, drilling a hole, and reattaching the cover to the car. Does this seem workable? Strong enough? Any better ideas? I considered using a steel washer instead of the plastic but I'm concerned it won't bond as well to the cover as would a similar TPO material. Thanks!

Okay so the question is: If there is a 3m x 3m carrot patch surrounded by a mot 3m deep and 3m across how does someone steal carrots with only 2 (2m) pieces of wood. according to my teacher, it doesnt involve math at all *but you cant glue/nail the woods together at all or anything like that,
how to attach a high carbon sword tang to a hardwood hilt? so i looked up the best adhesive for attaching metal to wood on thistothat.com and came up with 3M Fastbond 30-NF. the adhesive information on the site mentioned that adhesives should be let to dry first on the intended objects before fastening them together...? does that make sense? another site told me to add a second coat to the objects after the first coat dries and then attach them...? so my question is, is this glue the best for inserting a high carbon tang into a hardwood hilt, and if so, which process do i use to insert it properly? also on a side note, the back of the adhesive container says that its not suggested to be used on metal surfaces unless force dried. would putting the bonded pieces in front of a heatdish on max temperature do the trick? ps. ive looked around on the internet for techniques on the hilt-making process of swords, and even in depth guides on sword-crafting completely skip this part. i was just planning on drilling a tang-shaped tang-length hole into the hilt i plan on using, gradually shaping it until it fits nice and snug, then gluing it in... good idea or no?
How would you suggest repairing this bumper tear (Picasa picture link)? This car hit debris on the highway (a plastic bucket) and at least the bottom portion of a tear resulted in the plastic bumper cover. The tear went un-attended for a while resulting (I think) in the upper portion of the tear. I'm looking for suggestions for repairing it. The 3M and Bondo products I've found seem to be directed toward gap filling. Should I use one of those anyway? Would a super glue do the trick? How about Gorilla Glue? I'm not looking for pretty here.... durable and easy are my goals. 2 pictures of the tear are at the link below. http://picasaweb.google.com/cato.mail/BrokenBuggyBumper?feat=directlink

1969 GMC truck? Where or what site will have the online fix it yourself repair or restoring a 1969 GMC truck? I'm trying to fix panel in cab. The panels are badley warped and won't stick anymore with any glue I've put on it. I went to a Kragen's auto shop and they said if you clean and dust free the medal. You can use a 3m super weatherstrip adhesive to the panel. It will hold panel up above you where it won't rest on top of your head while sitting in truck. Is that true? What should I use to hold panel in it place like it supossed to be? Remember this. I'm here asking any info. on how to fix it yourself. Please do not answer mine with something that isn't what I ask for. I don't mean to be rude. Sorry, if you felt I was but I already know where Kragen or Napa auto shop is. Thank you. Back to what I'm here for. Does anyone know a web site I can go to that I can download for free or read and view pictures about how to do step by step fix or restore a 1969 GMC truck. Thank you again. The thing is they don't let you check out any of auto books but you can copy. each page is $0.15 a sheet
Can I use epoxy on polypropylene corrugated board? I would like to make my own storage box since I can't find the size I want in the market. I'm using polypropylene boards to make the box. Polypropylene corrugated board: http://www.made-in-china.com/image/2f0j00WveQpPYzuUrkM/PP-Corrugated-Board-China-Made-.jpg I've used the 5 minute epoxy to glue the sides to make a box and so far they are good. I've googled that the epoxy will not last long if I use it on polypropylene. What should I do? Should i get another type of epoxy which has a longer curing time so that I can mix the epoxy well and get a stronger bond? I know that 3M has a product which can bond polypropylene, the DP-8005/8010 but I need the set of gun applicator and other stuff which is very expensive which will cost me more than my one month's allowance. Any suggestions? Thanks! EDIT: Guys..polypropylene is different..please visit http://www.stealth316.com/2-dp8005.htm "Polypropylene and polyethylene are called "low energy" or "non-stick" plastics. Despite their widespread usefulness, "low energy" plastics have a quality that can make them hard to work with - they are difficult to seal or bond using commonly available sealant adhesives. Cyanoacrylate, epoxy, polyurethane, silicone (RTV for example), and most acrylic adhesives do not stick to polypropylene and polyethylene. I have personally verified this with cyanoacrylate ("Superglue"), two-part epoxy, and several types of silicone RTV adhesives. In the past, PP and PE had to be surface treated to convert their low-energy polymer into a higher-energy state in order to improve bonding." So..NO!! Polypropylene is NOT a type of normal plastics! I've tried superglue and it can't even bond the polypropylene!! Disappointed with the answers..
A question for structural Engineers? How can I design a double curved (S-shaped) concrete roof. It consists of 2 Vertical and one y- shaped column. the bearing pressure of the ground is 50kN/m^2. The roof is prefabricatedand consist of two arches that are bolted together to make the S-shape. The concrete structure is prefabricatedon site and moved and joined together using concrete glue grout. The concrete is 1 day old when the concrete components are moved and joined together. Plus could you write a method statement and risk aassessmentfor it. the structure is 2.3m tall by 4m long and 2 wide. the y shaped column is on the 4m long side with the Vertical columns on the other side.
Boat carpet seam joining? I recently had boat carpet installed, and done well. However, the dimensions the new boat jump seats(rear seats) I ordered did not come close enough to advertised length when assembled. I added on 2 1/2 inches of extra carpet length to ensure the carpet went under the seats. However, due to the seats being smaller than expected and were not assembled by then, one seat fell short of having carpet under it and another barely had enough under it. So in short, I am asking what is the best method to reduce or eliminate the appearance of a seam. Do you precut the extra piece with about 2 inches extra overlaping the previous edge, put the glue on the uncarpeted area, put the cut piece down, then cut at a 45 degree angle slightly over previous edge of the carpet to both edges? I know I will need 3M Blue 72 spray adhesive for this and I have enough spare carpet to get it done myself.
hard wood floor? How do you remove glued on carpet residue from a hard wood floor? I have tried scraping, solvent based chemicals, and sanding with sand paper and 3M pads. We have animals and kids in the house. I would like to stay away from more chemicals if possible. Thanks.
Extremeley difficult physics question I couldn't solve for extra credit? A long thin rod (mass M, length L) has a very small block of mass m glued to its right end. The left end is attached to a wall with a pin joint, which acts a pivot around which the rod can rotate. The rod is released from rest from a horizontal configuration. It swings down and crashes into the wall. What is its angular speed immediately before crashing ? the answer is : (g(6 m + 3M)/L(M + 3m)) ^1/2 can u explain how to get the answer ? i had this problem 3 months ago in physics hon. and only a few people knew how to do it this was in high school ....so if your good at college physics or whatever help out
Is holding my breath while spraying 3M glue safe? I don't want to deal with a respirator mask, but I'm sick of feeling like I have a stuffy noise/congested head after I'm working with 3M 77 glue. I just want to know if I plug my nose, if it will stop this. Do not tell me to buy a respirator mask unless you can suggest one that won't have me looking like a grunt from Halo. Thanks. 3M Super 77 classic + Spray booth. I personally don't even care about looks, but it'll slow me down on the job and have people talking...and that's going to be annoying.
