Is it safe to use a hot glue gun to make fish tank decorations?

- It should be harmless. But after you let the decorations dry make sure you wash the crap out of them. You'll be good.
- Yes, it should be safe to use. I have used a hot glue gun for some decorations a few years ago, and so far there have been no effects on the fish. Just a little tip though, it doesn't adhere well to polished surfaces - or PVC hence the silicone to hold things better. Hot glues are best for gluing the gravel to the base of plastic plants.
- No. Hot glue guns do not hold anything together. And the hot glue isn't the best for aquarium ornaments. Not only do you need to worry about chemicals leeching from it and the glue deteriorating, but also the aquarium occupants nibbling at it. Your should only use aquarium approved glues like silicone sealant. Packaging MUST state it's approved and safe for aquarium use.
