Gluesticks

will the glue melt my project?

for my 23rd birthday im getting a big cupcake tree but im going to make it myself cuz i hate the instability of the cardboard ones and the metal ones are expensive and not what im looking for. i am going to build my own and since my colors are hot pink and black i found these large plastic tumblers and plates that are the exact color i need but im afraid the hot glue gun will melt the plastic...will that happen? if i get dishwasher or microwave safe plate will that melt?

  1. It probably will not melt. What you should do is put a small amount on first, then gradually add more....If you let the glue cool and gradually add more it will not be as hot, yet able to adhere to the material
  2. It shouldn't melt the plastic, try a little first or use household glue like UHU
  3. There is a new glue out on the market called Liquid Fusion. It is great and will work on what you are using. I wouldn't put your final project through the dishwasher though. Try wiping it down with a damp cloth instead.
  4. I have a glue gun that uses both hot glue sticks and ones called "cool melt" glue sticks. The cool melt sticks work fine on plastic without melting it.
