Gluesticks

Are Surebonder mini glue sticks ok for freshwater tank?

I want to make a cave out of decorative, flat bottomed, marbles. My betta keeps trying to jump out of his tank. The water is in good condition because I have two other bettas in separate tanks with treated water from the same tap and they're fine. The only difference between the tanks is that there is nothing for him to hide in. So, the point is, I want to make him a cave and I already have loads of hot glue. I've heard many people say they've had hot glue in fish tanks for years with no problems. Is this glue safe? They're by Surebonder, called "All Purpose Stik" They're mini all temp sticks. I'd like to make it asap so I don't really have time to go to the store. Has anyone used this in their tanks? will it hold up underwater?

  1. i used hot gue in my tank and my fish are still fine
  2. Most glue is safe. some glue will deteriorate though and break the object down and release chemical in the water. For a small betta tank, it would kill it. It should be fine for a couple of years but should be replaced every other year.
  3. Hot glue doesn't work on all surfaces so possibly try using aquarium 100% silicone rubber sealant. I don't think that the glue will last very long underwater either. I wouldn't chance it, but there is a link suggesting it's okay. It's totally up to you.
