Gluesticks

How do you remove super glue from plastic miniatures?

I play warhammer 40k and I have a plastic model which is already assembled. I'd like to change the weapons on it and for that I'd need to disassemble it. What is the easiest way of removing the pieces which are super glued on?

  1. try nail polish remover.
  2. Be careful using any solvents like nail polish remover as it may melt the plastic you want to save. Nail polish remover is made of acetone and acetone melts most plastics. If you try it try it on a part of the model that wont show if it melts it. If you don't care about the weapon then I would cut away the old weapon being careful not to damage the rest of the model. Then I would use a glue that you can remove to place the new weapon (like Elmers glue)
  3. Acetone will eat styrene, that will damage the surface of the model. Try some foaming Easy Off oven cleaner(we use it to strip paint off of models, but it will eat glue too). Set model in plastic tub, use gloves and do this outside. You may need to do this a few times.
