What can i use other than glue gun to make a hard shiney surface?

What can i use other than glue gun to make a hard shiney surface? Dont really want to use PVA i want this to stay on as soon as i place it... Any ideas? Has to be very thick....ive got wallpaper glue...help!

1. Clear varnish perhaps? Depends on what the underlying surface is made of.
2. Why not go to a hobby or art shop and get some 'Cold Glaze'. I painted little drawings in acrylic paint on my patio slabs ten years ago and brushed some cold glaze over the top of them all, it seals in the colours and sets rock hard, the drawings look as fresh now as when i first did them ten years ago.
