Dog has nosebleeds, HELP!!?

Have a 4 yr old german shepherd who has lipfold pyoderma for over a yr now and have bacriderm, I believe it's called from vet for it. But vet saw his 2 cracks, 1 above each nostril and wants to test for autoimmune, then medicate dog forever. Can't afford that, so any suggestions as how to stop the nosebleeds? All he has to do is roll in grass or bump nose and it bleeds alot. Putting the ointment on nose and it is doing better, but not healing fast enough to stop nosebleeds. I tried liquid bandaid, but did not work. I know sometimes Doctors tell pts to put super glue on small cuts, should I try that? Suggestions appreciated. Has had nosebleeds for about 4 days, has had about 5 nosebleeds total. The bleeds are from the 1 crack that is wider than the other nosecrack, from his dry nose tip that is cracked.

  1. Liquid bandaid and superglue are no-nos. Dogs lick their noses and they can ingest that stuff accidentally. Unfortunately medicating for life is your best option. Perhaps you could afford it with pet insurance. Insurance for pets is incredibly cheap and covers a lot so you should look into it. Perhaps if it covers just you anual vet trip then you can do the meds yourself from what you save.
  2. How long has he been having the nose bleeds? Bleeding disorders such as auti-immune mediated hemolytic anemia should be taken very seriously (life-threatening). Did your vet do any bloodwork? Do you know exactly what he suspects the problem is?
