How do you melt hot glue when its hard as a rock?

Me and my friend Eric broke a little piece off a guitar and we are trying to fix it and the hot glue we have is hard as rock! What should we do?

1. Put it in a glue gun and plug the glue gun in and wait for it to get hot...
2. i'm sure you're familiar with spoons and lighters...try that
3. I would think slow set super glue would make a better job than hot melt but if your are sold on hot melt try a small electric soldering iron to melt a thin layer of glue then attach the missing piece.
