Gluesticks

I am using glue sticks to paste magazines cut out on a paper?

Glue sticks run out fast, is there another transparent glue other than glue sticks? what you recommend?

  1. There are many suitable adhesives. Rubber cement will allow you to lift off and reposition your pieces of paper, and cleanup is very easy, just rub the dried excess glue off with your finger. Many white glues will dry clear. Elmer's and Aleene's Tacky Glue are two well known and widely available glues, in the US at least. Elmer's glue also comes in a School Glue version. If you use a white glue, and are using a lot of it, then I suggest putting some in a small disposable container and using a cotton swab or a very cheap paintbrush to dab it on. Don't use a good paintbrush! You'll have greater control over where the glue goes. You can also thin many white glues with water. Experiment to see what gives you the best results. White glue cleans up with water, before it's dry. After it's dried, you can't really do any cleanup.
  2. I don't remember what it's called, but you water down Elmer's glue (or similar) in a dish and use a brush. First brush the paper before you put anything on it, then as you lay each piece down brush over the entire piece. When you're done you can brush over everything. It will dry clear and be glossy.
  3. I'd stick with glue sticks so you get the edges down neatly. I don't like liquid glues much because they're messy and they take too long to dry. You can get glue sticks at dollar stores, 3 on a card for a buck. If you slop it over, use a pick up square (one of those lumpy little erasers in the art supplies department at Michael's or Hobby Lobby) to clean it up. Be gentle, but it works very nicely. The other thing I use on paper is called a split or glue tab. It's a little square of double sided adhesive on a roll with a paper cover on one side. The other side in on the roll. You can get about 750 of the for around $5.50 at Michael's (Scotch brand) and there are several other brands too. They'll stay forever. Glue sticks and liquid adhesive dries up eventually. If this is something you want to keep, use the little tabs. Otherwise, glue sticks are fine.
