Gluesticks

acid, base or neutral?

Need to know if these things are acids, bases or neutral. Also need to know what color red AND blue litmus turns in this substance. All of this is done in a red cabbage indicator: lemon juice, apple juice, lemonade, bi-carb soda, vanilla essence, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, carpet cleaner, ammonia, glue, nail polish remover. Need 20... so it would be great if you could think of some more...

  1. You know what I'm not even going to answer this one pay more attention and study
  2. Litmus is derived from a lichen and is red in an acid and blue in a base. Fruit juices are acidic, sodium bicarbonate is basic, vanilla ???, toothpaste is neutral, shampoo, soaps and cleaners are usually somewhat basic, ammonia is basic, glue ??? (only water based glues can be considered). Nail polish remover is an organic solvent. When discussing pH, you're looking at the ratio of hydrogen ions to hydroxide ions in an aqueous solution. Therefore, asking about a pH for organic solvents and some glues would not be applicable. Lots more here: http://wow.osu.edu/experiments/chemistry/pH.html
