how can you get crayons to stay on a canvas without a hot glue gun?

I want to do a "melting crayons" project but I don't have a hot glue gun to help the crayons stick so what should I do?????

1. Stitch them on?? do a whip stitch with matching thread or the nylon thread.
2. Go to a dollar store and buy a mini glue gun for a buck or 2
