how do i fix my headliner?

my headliner has completely let go of my car and i have some 3m trim glue for it but i dont know what to do. my headliner has foam do i leave the foam there or do i but new foam or do i need foam .... pretty much whats the deal with the foam ... thanks

1. the head liner consists of material foam and a piece of cardboard like material for the base. i tried to glue my head liner in place but it never worked for me. so i was so disgusted i took the head liner out and the cardboard behind it and painted it. if you end up doing this i would recommend using a paint that has little to no fumes because for about a month my car smelled like paint, lol. to take everything out in one piece there are plastic trim pieces that hold everything in place you must remove those pieces above the doors.
2. your best bet is to take the headliner out of the car and bring it to an upolstry shop and have it recoverd it really is not that expensiveabout $70 for the complete job...
