Gluesticks

Is it possible to install solid hardwood floors onto a cement slab?

We were told it's being done, by using Bostik glue.

  1. Yes, there are several methods for this. I dont favor the glue method, as this does not allow for any type of vapor barrier between the concrete and the wood floor. The most successful method is to first anchor subfloor grade plywood to the concrete using both construction adhesive, and mechanical fasteners. Step two is to apply 15# roofing felt over the plywood. Now install hardwood flooring, in the standard method, placing, and nailing. If this is a retro, or renovation project you will need to take into account your transition points to adjacent flooring, and heights for existing interior doors.
  2. yes you can. either have a pro do it or go to home depot or lowes, they will have a book or pamphlet on it. keep in mind you must install a vapor barrier and allow for expansion
  3. yeh you need masonary screws or nails
  4. I installed a 5" plank t&g floor on a slab using a special troweled on adhesive. I don't remember the name of it but it was green and cost over $150 for a 2.5 gallon pail. It was a special adhesive that stays flexible forever. Always allow at least a 1/2" gap around all baseboards.
