What kind of glue should I use to affix the rear-view mirror in my car?
I have a '92 ford deathtrap, er, I mean, Explorer, if that matters. The bloody thing just fell off yesterday. Don't tell me expoxy-type glues. They don't stick fast enough, I can't clamp it, and I can't very well sit there for 10 minutes holding the damn thing. I was thinking a hot glue gun. Well, I went to the auto supply. Bought the w/s repair kit. Followed directions EXACTLY. It didn't work. The glue is nothing but superglue and it didn't stick for beans. I think part of the problem is that the "button" is part of the mirror. It's a metal piece that looks like it slides into the mirror, and it was glued in. Should i try soaking the thing in acetone, see if I can get the button out, then try it that way.

- in the auto dept of walmart, autozone, etc.. they have glue just for mirrors.. i used it on my cavalier, the thing never fell off after i put it on.... i cant remember the exact brand name.. but imsure they are all about the same quality.
- Go to any parts store and buy the kit they sell. It comes with a new piece to glue to the windshield. It will bond to the windshield very quickly. You have to give it some time before you attach the mirror.
- Hot glue won't be strong enough to attach it. Go to your local parts supplier and you can get a small tube of glue like the pros use and reattach in no time. You won't have to hold it up until your arm falls of, but you might if try the hot glue.
- sorry but u will have to get the epoixy type and why not hold it for ten if u need it its worth it is it not that ten mins might be the ten that will save you or kill u so its they now have very fast setting glues at autoparts stores...try it
- the auto parts store sells rear view mirror adhesive-make sure not to use too much glue-three small dots will do it let dry over night then hang the mirror
- The one on your windshield...go to an auto parts store and get a rear view mirror repair kit, it has all the necessary pieces in there...follow the instructions EXACTLY, and yes it is epoxy...you will have to hold it in place for two to three minutes, AFTER you get the windshield cleaned properly. so make the time!!!
- I had one fall off when I cleaned the inside of the window with acetone. I have a tube of some special glue expressly for the rearview mirror. It came from an auto parts store. I don’t know how long it takes to set. You could rig up a bar or use one of those spring loaded shower curtain rods to hold it up there while it dries. Try to stick to proven methods to avoid recurring problems. Good luck.
- no epoxy, no hot glue. the adhesive is a Loctite material made exclusively for the button/window. Go to autozone and get the right stuff. realize you must use this as the glue is formulated to come off with excessive pressure/force. If you're in a car accident, you hope to God the mirror pops off. Otherwise, the mirror will continue to impale you. Ouch. some mirrors are made with a spring snap that allows them to detach without affecting the button.
- parts store carries the complete kit and directions you need to do the job.
