Gluesticks

How do I remove dried hot glue from my desk?

This is my first time using a hot glue gun and I was stupid enough to place it on my desk, which is made of wood with a thin layer of paint on it. Some of the hot glue dripped onto the desk and now I have dried hot glue all over my table. The bad thing is I tried prying them off but it caused it to smudge everywhere, does anyone have any methods of getting it off without damaging the table?

  1. cover table with heavy paper such as paper from grocery bags and iron the paper with a clothes iron on a low heat just enough to melt the glue and it to soak into the paper. Use the same technique to remove candle wax.
  2. There are 2 ways, 1. get some easy off and use a rag to get the glue off, this will however leave a tackier like soft surface. 2. lightly sand the effected area until it is off. Either way you will have to plan on having to repaint your surface.....Sorry, the only way to do. Forget lacquer thinners, or paint thinners because this will only break down the paint and you will have a real gooey mess. Lucky it was just the top of the desk!! It will be easier to repaint.....You did not specify if the paint was an oil or a latex finish, when you repaint, use oil! You can get a quart or less for about $15 - use a good brush and add a product called Flowtrol with the paint. Makes the paint flow better on the surface. You may want to put 2 coats for a great finish, you can even change the color of the desk if you are up to it, then it will look like a brand new desk!!!
