Gluesticks

Is using a glue gun a physical or a chemical change?

Physical change may cause a change in form or state, but not in substance. Chemical change occurs when substance changes into one or more new substances with different properties.

  1. physical change is correct. you answered your own question.
  2. If you mean the action of gluing, then it's physical. You're externally joining objects. If it's the use of the glue gun, then it's chemical, since you're changing the enthalpy of the glue in order to change its state from solid to liquid.
  3. physical. the chemicals making the glue havent changed...they are just hotter

  5. It's sad to see that so few people in the chemistry section understand that glue guns use epoxy resins that polymerize to bond surfaces together. Hence, since the substance changes from epoxy base monomers to polymers chains, it's a chemical change.
