Gluesticks

Hot glue experience?

Have you experience in hot gluing glass to steel? How strong is the bond? Recommendations about hot glue in general, gun, sticks, etc. Thanks

  1. Well here it comes from experience its only good for crafts like small projects i tried it and it seem to work but it don't maybe things like pictures, flowers and so on wish i would of ask before i spent all that money. The things i made and sold i bet them people are mad at me because the glue didn't hold up with things i built and sold. Because what was left i put in shop and it feel apart sorry wish it was stronger. Now I'm talking stick glue okay ( hot ) I'm talking little pieces of wood 1/4 inch thick to 3inch long i made shutters for my bird houses. Simple perchs for a bird to stand on that went it a perfect size hole 1/2 inch.
  2. Hot glue is pretty strong. It depends how much weight is involved.
  3. I don't think a hot glue will bond to either glass nor steel. An epoxy glue, one that comes in two bottles that you mix, is going to be the best bet, if not the only thing that will work.
  4. Hot glue isn't really "glue", it's just something that gets sticky when it melts. For glass to steel, get some GOOD instant adhesive made for the project. Loc-Tite has a variety, you can find a selection at auto parts or hardware stores. Just read the "applications/uses" to make sure you can bond metal to glass with it.
